I've worked on many UI/UX projects and my goal is always to ensure that users develop an affinity for the experience over time. But something special happens with ringtones— people adopt them as their own and they become part of pop culture.

Working with mcgarrybowen on the Verizon account, I had the opportunity to personally create the startup sound for the HTC Rhyme and the ringtone for Droid Ultra.

The HTC Rhyme was introduced as an antidote to the overly masculine phone design of the time, so I created a startup sound that was warmer, softer, and intriguing. This animation accompanied the sound every time the device was powered on.

The first time I heard someone's Droid Ultra ring, I was on an NYC bus with my son. At first, I couldn't figure out where I knew the tune until I realized I had composed it many months earlier. But it wasn't mine anymore — it belonged to everyone.
